Is Group Right for Me?

Are you wondering what it is like to attend a group for your mental health? Do you wonder if a group can help you? Maybe you are nervous to meet new people and fear you won’t fit in? This video will provide you with information on what to expect when attending a group for mental health treatment. It will answer many of the common questions people ask, and hopefully even help with some of the natural worries people may have. Groups can be very effective and rewarding, even having some benefits you cannot get in individual therapy.

Grieving: Coping with the Holidays (Added Recently):

This is a supportive session which will include helpful tips as to how to best manage the holiday period while you are grieving. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions with qualified presenters, who also provide grief and bereavement counselling.

Gambling Treatment Group (New):

Do you wonder if your gambling is a problem? Do you gamble for longer than you intend, or spend more money that planned? Is your gambling affecting your relationships or your mental health? If so, the Gambling Treatment Group may be for you. Gambling addiction can impact all areas of a person’s life, not just their finances. Reaching out for help can be the step needed to start the recovery process. The Gambling Treatment Group (11 sessions) is for residents (ages 18+) of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Treatment Group (New):

The OCD Treatment Group is an 8-session group for adults (age 18+) who are experiencing symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). A formal diagnosis is not required; however, participants must be referred by a clinician who has knowledge of OCD and believes OCD is likely present. This group will help participants gain a better understanding of OCD, as well as skills to help manage and treat. Suicide Loss Group (New):

When someone close to you dies by suicide, the grief can be overwhelming. If you have experienced a loss of a loved one, you may be interested in joining our Provincial Suicide Loss Support Group. Our group is facilitated by at least one mental health clinician and one person who has lived experience of loss by suicide. Anxiety Treatment Group

This group is for adults (ages 18+) who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety. This group is 10 weeks and covers everything from understanding what is happening in the body and mind when anxiety is present, to learning how to cope and recover from anxiety. Mental Health Skills and Recovery Group

This group will be offered over 10 sessions and will explore a variety of topics related to mental health, recovery and wellness. If you are you are age 18+ and struggling with any issues related to mental health this group will be helpful to you. We will cover many topics such as self awareness, and self compassion; how to build a life that fits with your values and what is important to you; how to have healthy relationships; and how to manage the “racing mind.” For more information and to register for this group, click below for more information.

Depression Treatment Group 

This is a 10 week treatment group for people (age 18+) who are experiencing symptoms of depression. A formal diagnosis is not needed. This group will help people gain understanding into their symptoms. It will also provide knowledge and skills to help people move towards recovery. This group is a safe space for all to connect and gain tools to improve their mental health.

Mindfulness Based Class for Chronic Pain

This group is designed to help participants develop ways to cope with chronic pain. Participants will learn skills to manage the difficult emotions, losses, and social challenges that arise from its experience. Participants will be introduced to the concept of mindfulness and other evidence-based skills. Mindfulness is a skill in which benefit comes from practice. Signing up for this class means committing to practice daily for 8 weeks in order to experience benefit. Please note: This group is not long-term psychology support and not a substitute for other ongoing treatments and care.

This drop-in group is available to any residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, age 18+. This group aims to provide a safe space for individuals to meet and explore topics related to their mental health. Group topics can vary from week to week based on the needs and interests of those present. This drop-in group can be attended as needed and sign up is ongoing.

Creating Healthy Connections

Are you struggling to improve your relationships? Do you want to develop new and healthy relationships? Are you seeking to know how to end relationships that are no longer healthy? Or perhaps are you seeking to deepen the connections that you already have? This group will help participants improve and cultivate healthy relationships in their life. This group will be offered over 7 sessions and will explore a variety of topics each week. If you are you are age 18+ and struggling with the relationships in your life, then this group may be helpful to you. Wellness Wednesdays provide the opportunity for all to learn information and tools to support good mental health. These sessions are offered by local mental health staff who are a part of the mental health program of NL Health Services. Each week there will be a different topic. This 10 week group is for people who have a loved one with living with mental health issues &/or addictions. When living with or supporting a loved one who is struggling, it can also impact you. Addictions Early Recovery Group

Alcohol, drug use and gambling can impact a person’s life in all areas, when it is no longer social. Sometimes people have tried to stop, or make changes on their own, but have not been able to keep the changes going. Reaching out for help can be the step needed to start the recovery process. The Addictions Early Recovery Group is available to help people who are working toward an abstinence based recovery. This group is for people who are in the early stages of making changes and looking at how to live their life alcohol, drug &/or gambling free. Complete abstinence is not required, but is the goal. DBT Skills Group

This group is for adults (ages 18+) who are experiencing difficulty in managing intense emotions, difficulties in their relationships, and overall struggles in day to day life. Over the course of this 12 week group participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice the skills of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, which has been shown to be effective in addressing many mental health issues. Have you experienced problems with alcohol, drug use or gambling? Would you like to connect with others who are in various stages of recovery? This group is for the person who is just starting out in looking at their substance use or gambling, or the person who has been making changes and is seeking some supports to continue. Bereavement Support Group 

This group is for adults (ages 18+) who are experiencing grief due to death. This 8 week group provides bereaved individuals with an opportunity to learn about grief, loss, and bereavement so that they can understand what healthy grief looks like in everyday life. Participants will gain practical coping skills to deal with common and ongoing grief reactions, like anxiety, sleeplessness, and unhealthy negative thinking patterns.
