In fact group interventions offer some unique benefits, such as shared support and connections with others. Check out some of the groups we are offering at NL Health Services. These groups are facilitated by skilled mental health clinicians in our province.
Are you struggling to improve your relationships? Do you want to develop new and healthy relationships? Are you seeking to know how to end relationships that are no longer healthy? Or perhaps are you seeking to deepen the connections that you already have? This group will help participants improve and cultivate healthy relationships in their life. This group will be offered over 6 sessions and will explore a variety of topics each week. Creating Healthy Connections is a 7 week group that is intended to support folks who are wanting to gain more insight into the qualities of healthy relationships and to learn skills to improve connections. This group will provide a safe space for people to join with others who are also seeking to improve their interpersonal connections. Struggles can be related to things such as communication, boundaries, identifying qualities of healthy and unhealthy relationships, and ways to increase positive social connections.
Creating Healthy Connections will be offered on Tuesday’s, starting October 15th – November 26th 2024 (7 weeks) from 6 pm – 8 pm island time (5:30 pm – 7:30 pm Labrador). Participants need to be able to attend all sessions and have access to a private space from which to participate.

This group aims to provide a safe space for individuals to meet and explore topics related to their mental health. Group topics can vary from week to week, based on the needs and interests of those present. This drop-in group can be attended as needed and sign up is ongoing. This time-limited psychoeducation class is designed to help participants develop ways to cope with chronic pain and the difficult emotions, losses and social challenges that arise from its experience. Participants will be introduced to the concept of mindfulness and other evidence-based skills. Mindfulness is a skill in which benefit comes from practice. Signing up for this class means committing to practice daily for 8 weeks in order to experience benefit. Please note -This group is not long-term psychology support and not a substitute for other ongoing treatments and care.

Wellness Wednesdays provide the opportunity for all residents of the province (age 18+) to learn information, and tools, to support good mental health. These sessions are offered by local mental health staff who are a part of the Mental Health Program of NL Health Services. Each week there will be a different topic of learning. People can attend one week, or as many as they like.

Sometimes we can get overwhelmed looking for the right information to help us improve our mental health. Sometimes we have not had the opportunity to access information and learn effective skills. These sessions will provide a safe, low barrier way to access information that is effective and relevant to you. Sessions will be offered by zoom so that people can access them from the comfort of their own home, no matter where they live in the province.

This 8 week group provides bereaved individuals with an opportunity to learn about grief, loss, and bereavement so that they can understand what healthy grief looks like in everyday life. Participants will gain practical coping skills to deal with common and ongoing grief reactions, like anxiety, sleeplessness, and unhealthy negative thinking patterns. Participants will be invited to share their story in a supportive and confidential environment.

This group is for adults (ages 18+) who are experiencing difficulty in managing intense emotions, difficulties in their relationships, and overall struggles in day-to-day life. Over the course of this 12 week group participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice the skills of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), which has been shown to be effective in addressing many mental health issues. This group is a safe space for all to connect and gain tools to improve their mental health.
Participants in this group will be required to do weekly practice, and regular attendance is required.

This group is for adults (ages 18+) who are experiencing grief due to death. This 8 week group provides bereaved individuals with an opportunity to learn about grief, loss, and bereavement so that they can understand what healthy grief looks like in everyday life. Participants will gain practical coping skills to deal with common and ongoing grief reactions, like anxiety, sleeplessness, and unhealthy negative thinking patterns. Participants will be invited to share their story in a supportive and confidential environment.

This group is for adults (ages 18+) who are experiencing difficulty in managing intense emotions, difficulties in their relationships, and overall struggles in day-to-day life. Over the course of this 12 week group participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice the skills of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), which has been shown to be effective in addressing many mental health issues. This group is a safe space for all to connect and gain tools to improve their mental health.
Participants in this group will be required to do weekly practice, and regular attendance is required.

The Gender Journey’s Group main goal is to create a safe space to explore Gender Identify and Gender Expression. We hope that at the end of this group folks will feel a part of a larger community, have more comfort and clarity around their own identity, and feel supported to live their life in the way that feels most comfortable with them. As the name of the group indicates, we are not trying to arrive at a specific outcome or “destination” that is the same for everybody, we are embracing the journey for each individual. This group is a partnership between NL Health Services, Quadrangle NL and Lifewise.
Topics are provided as a way to guide exploration, and to share information that may be helpful in this exploration. However, topics and weekly agenda’s can be modified to fit the needs of each unique group composition. A sample outline for the group is as follows:

Creating Healthy Connections is a 7 week group that is intended to support folks who are wanting to gain more insight into the qualities of healthy relationships and to learn skills to improve connections. This group will provide a safe space for people to join with others who are also seeking to improve their interpersonal connections. Struggles can be related to things such as communication, boundaries, identifying qualities of healthy and unhealthy relationships, and ways to increase positive social connections.

This drop-in group is available to any residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, age 18+. This group aims to provide a safe space for individuals to meet and explore topics related to their mental health. Group topics can vary from week to week, based on the needs and interests of those present. This drop-in group can be attended as needed and sign up is ongoing. Alcohol, drug use and gambling can impact a person’s life in all areas, when it is no longer social. Sometimes people have tried to stop, or make changes on their own, but have not been able to keep the changes going. Reaching out for help can be the first step needed to start the recovery process. The Addictions Early Recovery Group is available to help people who are working toward an abstinence based recovery.
This group is for people who are in the early stages of making changes and looking at how to live their life alcohol, drug &/or gambling free. Complete abstinence is not required to join, but people are working toward an addiction free life. Support will be provided by Clinicians of NL Health Services to group members to explore their use, set goals, and to gain skills to make changes in their life. This is a safe, non-judgmental space.
