Mental Health Services during State of Emergency

 

  • The wildfires in Central Newfoundland are likely resulting in a high degree of stress and uncertainty for many people. As loved ones are moved to other region’s long term facilities and hospitals, and some people are packing their cars in the event they have to evacuate their homes, it is expected that they would feel anxiety and worry.

 

  • Mental Health and Addictions staff are working with the Emergency Operations Centre to ensure mental wellness needs are considered during this time.

 

  • There are many resources available to assist people who are feeling anxious or need help in coping:

  • Provincial Lifewise Warm Line – call 1-855-753-2560 9:00am to 12:00am daily to speak with a trained mental health peer supporter.

 

  • 811 – in the event of a mental health crisis, HealthLine nurses are available 24/7 to listen, provide support, and connect you to health services in your area.

 

  • Crisis Text Line (powered by Kids Help Phone) – Talk to a trained volunteer Crisis Responder who will help with any issues – big or small. The service is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day. For adults, text ‘WELLNESS’ to 741741 and for youth, text ‘HOME’ to 686868.

 

  • SeniorsNL – For seniors and individuals who support seniors, SeniorsNL is a resource that is available throughout the province. Call 1-800-563-5599 for information or just to talk. Email: info@seniorsnl.ca

 

  • 2SLGBTQIA+ Warm Line – Planned Parenthood provides a peer support service run by and for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Newfoundland and Labrador. The line provides a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people who are seeking help or someone to talk to. Call or text 1-866-230-8041.

 

  • 211 – an information and referral service that connects Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to critical human, social, community and government supports. The service is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day in 170 different languages.
