Gambling can come in various forms from sports betting, online gambling, VLT’s (video lottery terminals), to bingo and lottery tickets. Do you wonder if your gambling is a problem? Do you gamble for longer than you intend, or spend more money than planned? Is your gambling affecting your relationships or your mental health? If so, the Gambling Treatment Group may be for you. Gambling addiction can impact all areas of a life, not just finances. Reaching out for help can be the step needed to start the recovery process. This group will provide a safe and supportive environment to understand more about gambling addictions, and to learn ways to address the problems that arise when addiction occurs. This group will provide a foundation to begin your recovery and to regain your life. This group is for people who are actively seeking to engage in the recovery process, and are willing to try to practice the skills taught in the group setting.
The weekly schedule is as follows:
• Week 1 – Introduction, and What is Problem Gambling
• Week 2 – Gambling as a Lifestyle and Patterns
• Week 3 – Identifying Supports and Focusing on Relationships
• Week 4 – Debt Assessment
• Week 5 – Negative and Irrational Thinking, and Substance Use and Mental Health
• Week 6 – Stress Management and Coping Skills
• Week 7 – Leisure Planning and Life Balance
• Week 8 – Self Esteem: Healthy and Impaired
• Week 9 – Communication Skills, Assertiveness, and Anger Management
• Week 10 – Relapse Prevention and Warning Signs
• Week 11 – Reflection, Brief Presentation from GA, and Wrap Up
The Gambling Treatment Group (10 sessions) will be offered on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:30 pm island time (5:30 pm -8:00 pm in Labrador).
