Doorways offers quick access to mental health and substance use counselling, one session at a time. Most provide drop-in services, while some offer same-day, next-day, or phone appointments – all with no referral.

Start your journey today by accessing a variety of guidance, support, and care including self-guided resources, group therapy, individual care, and specialized services – available wherever and whenever you need it: in person, by phone, and online.

Stepped Care was created in collaboration with healthcare professionals and people with lived and living experience across our province to better support your mental health, addictions, or substance use journey.

Programs & Services

Immediate and often urgent care is provided for individuals in severe mental health crises, including suicide prevention and stabilization. Health lines offer direct, no-referral options for immediate support. In-person emergency services are available at any emergency department across the province, and mobile crisis response teams are accessible in every region.

Individuals are empowered to self-manage their own health and wellness by exploring available resources and programs focusing on healthy eating, sports and recreation, healthy sleep hygiene, mindfulness, social connections and self-help options; as well as using natural, informal supports.

Services led by trained peers or supported by community organizations to offer guidance and emotional support, often in group settings.

Individuals receive help through a mix of self-guided learning and brief sessions with a trained coach or counsellor. These sessions can be in person, online or over the phone. Coaches and counsellors assist individuals in building mental health skillks, offering support, boosting motivation and connecting them to other services if needed.

Mental health and addictions professionals offer counselling for individuals, families, couples and groups dealing with mental health or substance use issues. Counselling can be done in person, by phone or over video chat. Counsellors also help connect individuals to other services in the Stepped Care model.

Intensive interventions for specific or complex mental health conditions that requiring expert care and treatment. Referrals are required to access this step of the model.

Intensive treatment within a hospital or clinical setting, providing 24-hour care for those in need of critical mental health support. Accessing this level of service requires individuals to complete a specialized assessment with mental health or addictions staff and is unique to each facility.
